EarthGirl Jacqueline: Creating & Resolving in Light & Dark

3 January 2012 No Comment

What makes you an EarthGirl?
The fact that I am conscious of living here on Earth makes me an Earthgirl. I try to treat it like my home, because I want to live in a safe, clean, peaceful home. Since I cannot control the rest of the world, I do try to do this in my immediate surroundings. Sometimes just a smile at someone else is enough, or picking up someone else’s litter that they left behind.

Please tell our readers what you’re working on that’s positively impacting our planet and its people.
On a daily basis I try to maintain a positive spirit and hope that it becomes contagious; by that I believe it positively impacts our planet, even if it is only a grain of sand… have you seen the beautiful shorelines of Miami Beach?….grains of sand.:) I also try to evoke a sense of consciousness or personal awareness through my art. My art has a lot to do with the human condition as well as alienation and awakening of the Truth within ourselves.

My art is evolving along with my soul; my artwork has to do with consciousness in an esoteric way. My subjects are usually metaphors for the union or the separation of the soul from the body, or the consciousness from the mind. I like my art to ignite awareness of the Self within (the hidden self); whether it is light or dark, it still IS.

I’m moving towards printing my photographs on homemade, recycled paper, with as few chemicals as possible, using alternative paper-making.

I’m also excited about my new project with a friend and future EarthGirl. We are developing an eco-friendly clothing line, using organic fabrics, produced mostly in our own studio — from dying our own fabric, to designing our own prints, to the construction of all the garments. We’re really excited to introduce the line and you’ll hear more about it from her so stay tuned!

(Here’s a taste of a few of EarthGirl Jacqueline’s spellbinding works. You can view and purchase her works here.)

Creating is my passion, resolving is my practice… I do this in my art and in my everyday life.

What’s inspired you to do the amazing things that you do?
Getting older has inspired me to do amazing things, life is short and I think it is important to be free from our own limitations and be at peace with ourselves so we can be prepared and willing to help out someone else if need be.

What environmental cause would you like to promote with your image?
HUMANITY! I want to promote the power of change with positive thinking. By being true with ourselves we can be true to others and the rest of the world. By being aware and conscious of our thoughts, we can control what we want to focus on. As for me, I focus on reaching my highest potential and being “in the moment” to accompany others in finding theirs.

When did you become aware of how magnificent our planet is, and the power of human action with Her?
I think I have always been conscious of it. When I was a little girl, I couldn’t believe the beauty I saw in nature… I would stop and stare at trees, leaves, clouds, insects, ocean and seriously breathe in and feel gratitude for these gifts we had, for free, in our own surroundings. I remember once looking at a group of ants that gathered on my window sill, and I would start creating a dialogue between them, (it was like my own little “reality show”) and it was all by observing them that I saw this unity between them; a true kinship. I always wanted that for us “Earthlings”.

Do you have any earth-friendly rituals you’d like to share with us?
I wake up and say “ thank you” and when I go to bed, I say “ thank you” again. I live one day at a time and whenever I can be of aid to anyone, I try to be.

What organic, eco-friendly product do you use or wear?
I do try to use organic cleaning products, and also recycle my own clothes by making more clothes or art projects or cleaning rags, or gift wrapping, etc… And since I’m here, I should mention that I wear and love EarthGirlz Organic Skincare Oil. It’s great!

What change would you like to make, that would help our planet in some way, that you haven’t made already?
It would certainly be to do more research on companies, products and produce, so that I can make better choices for my health and for our environment.

What do you think is an important change that consumers and corporations should make TODAY for a better world tomorrow?
I truly do not know what they should do; all I know is that if we all conserved a little more and truly were conscious of the little things like water, electricity, recycling (plastic bags, donating things, using things to make new things, etc.) we would not be so wasteful. But I think it starts with our thoughts; if our thoughts are wasteful, then how can we ever have room to think about the truly important things, like a sustainable place to live for ourselves and future humans?

What one thing has someone said about you that has made you feel proud and accomplished?
Since I started art school, I have gotten many compliments from friends and family regarding my own growth as a person, as well as my art. I am in love with creating and I certainly am in my element when I’m learning and making things with my hands.
Friends and family see this and express it, which makes me feel proud and accomplished.

What obstacles do you encounter and how do you break through them?
I have a major obstacle, which is anxiety. I have a lot of anxiety, which stems from fear since I was a little girl. However, I have learned how to transmute that. Although I may fall short at times, I try to practice on a daily basis. It has not been easy but it does become easier to recognize and alter the negative thoughts. I do not take medication for anxiety, and I no longer need a “therapist”… I know to be vigilant with it so I can continue to evolve to my highest potential.

Do EarthGirlz really have more fun?
It is fun to live life simply by keeping it light… no baggage, no drama. We are equipped with what we need — use your brain, your hands and your heart.

Can you share a little something more with our EarthGirlz readers?
I have a bad habit of using curse words for emphasis… I am trying to break the habit.

You’re trapped on an island with a tree that only grows one thing. What is it?
Coconut, so I can eat its meat, drink its water and have a cool bikini top… and maybe a helmet to protect me from more falling coconuts.

Okay, make your Earthgirlz wish?
I wish for true peace within all of our hearts.

Jacqueline and EarthGirlz teamed up to produce EarthGirlz Mahavidya Project. We felt that she could capture the light and dark of each goddess: the polarities and non-duality they represent. Here are three images of EarthGirl Marcela embodying aspects of Kali, the first of the 10 Mahavidyas.
